Facebook's Zuckerberg Rings the NASDAQ Opening Bell, Signalling Stock Market DebutMay 18, 2012
Facebook Inc. made a market splash on Friday (May 18) as its executives, including CEO Mark Zuckerberg, rang the opening bell at the Nasdaq, signaling the beginning of the day's trade and the company's debut on the stock market. Facebook shares will begin trading at around 11 am (1500 GMT) when it is set to become the first US company to be worth more than $100 billion US dollars at its debut. The bell was rung remotely by Zuckerberg and his executives from their Menlo Park, California, headquarters. This week, Facebook increased the size of its initial public offering (IPO) by almost 25 percent to 421 million shares, or a 15 percent stake in the company -- a day after hiking its target price range about 14 percent. More than half of the proceeds of the IPO will go to existing shareholders, including early backers such as Accel Partners and Russia's DST Global. The more bullish had expected Facebook to price at $40 (USD) per share. However, the Nasdaq Composite Index fell by more than 2 percent on Thursday (May 17), quelling such optimism. Facebook has 33 underwriters for the IPO, led by Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs.
Markets Start Higher Again, Can It Hold Into The Weekend?May 18, 2012
This morning, the S&P 500 Index e-mini futures (ES-M2) are trading higher by 6.50 points to 1307.75 per contract. The European markets are trading flat to higher as yields on Spanish and Italian debt have retreated. Is this the calm before the storm? Nearly everyday, the major stock indexes start the trading day higher and immediately fade after the opening bell rings at the new York Stock Exchange. Traders should and must continue to follow the US Dollar Index very closely. As you probably know by now, the major stock market indexes around the world will usually trade inverse to US Dollar Index. Today, the US Dollar Index has declined sharply from the overnight highs, however, it is only down by 0.04 cents to $81.49 per contract. Any bounce in the US Dollar Index will likely cause these markets to deflate lower. Essentially, every trade is a trade on the dollar.

Inside Bombay Stock Exchange - BSEApr 13, 2012
BSE Bombay Stock Exchange, Dalal Street, Bombay. This is where ALL the action takes place in Mumbai! Even after the city's name was changed to Mumbai, they have gladly not changed it to the MBE. Imagine calling it the Mumbai Stock Exchange. It just doesn't sound right! As per Wikipedia: The Bombay Stock Exchange is the oldest exchange in Asia. It traces its history to the 1850s, when four Gujarati and one Parsi stockbroker would gather under banyan trees in front of Mumbai's Town Hall. The location of these meetings changed many times, as the number of brokers constantly increased. The group eventually moved to Dalal Street in 1874 and in 1875 became an official organization known as 'The Native Share & Stock Brokers Association'. In 1956, the BSE became the first stock exchange to be recognized by the Indian Government under the Securities Contracts Regulation Act. The Bombay Stock Exchange developed the BSE SENSEX in 1986, giving the BSE a means to measure overall performance of the exchange. In 2000 the BSE used this index to open its derivatives market, trading SENSEX futures contracts. The development of SENSEX options along with equity derivatives followed in 2001 and 2002, expanding the BSE's trading platform. Historically an open outcry floor trading exchange, the Bombay Stock Exchange switched to an electronic trading system in 1995. It took the exchange only fifty days to make this transition. This automated, screen-based trading platform called BSE On-line ...
